On 3 October 2019, Tubantia reported on plans for a heart clinic in Tanzania backed by people from Twente. Journalist Josien Kodde spoke to the team about their ambitions at KCMC in Moshi. The newspaper article, shared on our website as a cutting, offers a glimpse of the early days of Hart voor Tanzania.
From a hospital visit to building plans
The idea began with cardiologist Salah Said’s visit to the hospital, where his daughter Ines was on a placement. The conditions made a lasting impression. With people from healthcare and construction, he wanted to explore how facilities for cardiovascular patients could be improved.
Tubantia described the involvement of specialists from ZGT and MST, alongside construction company VolkerWessels. The ambition went beyond a building: sharing expertise and training staff mattered too. The work would need to fit the hospital’s resources and local organisation.
The cutting mentions an early cost estimate of five million euros and a forthcoming first-stone ceremony. These were the plans and expectations reported in October 2019, rather than a current budget. The original newspaper cutting is preserved below as part of our project archive.
