In March 2021, Xandra Rakier spoke to Salah Said about Hart voor Tanzania on Radio Gelderland. The interview formed part of Gelderland Helpt!’s coverage of the project. The recording is preserved on Omroep Gelderland’s SoundCloud channel and can be heard below.
The story behind the project
Said initiated the plans for a heart and vascular clinic at KCMC in Moshi. Volunteers and healthcare professionals in the Netherlands helped through expertise, medical equipment and fundraising. This radio interview was one of the reports introducing the project to the public at the time.
The cookbook also brought people together around Hart voor Tanzania in spring 2021. VV Scherpenzeel prepared a Tanzanian meal to raise funds, for example. Omroep Gelderland also made a television programme with ambassador Carrie ten Napel.
The radio recording adds to the photographs and written stories in the archive. It comes from a period when television coverage and local fundraising helped the project reach new supporters. The original Omroep Gelderland recording is linked below.
