Carrie ten Napel became an ambassador for Hart voor Tanzania in 2020. Her connection with Africa went back further. In 2008, she and Maaike Heethaar made the series Because I’m a Girl in Senegal for RTV Oost. When Maaike later introduced her to Salah Said, Carrie wanted to learn more about the plans for Moshi.
Speaking to RTV Oost, she said Said’s personal dedication had made a particular impression. As an ambassador, she hoped to share the story of the heart and vascular clinic and involve more people in the project.
Continuing during the pandemic
The project faced delays in 2020 because working visits could not take place. Support from the Netherlands continued: containers of equipment were still sent, and work progressed on the cookbook of Tanzanian dishes and recipes from Twente’s chefs.
An ambassador offered another way to introduce people to this work. The original interview explores Carrie’s motivation, the project’s plans and ways to continue helping during the pandemic. Read it below as a story from November 2020.
